ABOUT
NAOMI VEITCH

Central Coast Artist & Contemporary Painter

Naomi Veitch is a professional Central Coast artist known for her evocative oil paintings that capture the movement, light, and soul of the Australian landscape and its inhabitants. With a career spanning over two decades in the creative industries, Naomi has transitioned from a technical background in traditional signwriting to become a sought-after fine artist and mentor.

Based in her studio on the New South Wales Central Coast, Naomi’s work is a celebration of "painterly realism." Her approach balances technical precision with expressive brushwork, ensuring each piece feels vibrantly alive rather than purely photographic.

The Artistic Journey: From Signwriting to Fine Art

Naomi’s unique perspective is rooted in her early training as a professional signwriter. This foundation instilled a deep understanding of letterforms, colour theory, and the structural integrity of paint—skills she later refined while completing an Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts.

Today, this technical discipline allows her to move fluidly between mediums. While she is a specialist in professional oil portraits, Naomi is equally adept at working with acrylics, pen and wash, and large-scale murals. Her ability to translate the character of a subject onto a cradled board or canvas has earned her a reputation as one of the region's most versatile creators.

A Connection to the Coast

As a Central Coast artist, Naomi’s work is deeply influenced by the local environment. From the sun-drenched beaches of Woy Woy and Umina to the tranquil bushland of Horsfield Bay, her paintings reflect the textures and tones of coastal living.

Beyond her personal practice, Naomi is a passionate advocate for the regional arts community. She serves as a mentor through her open-studio art classes and workshops, and she is a key figure in local exhibitions, including her annual role in overseeing The Bays Art Show.

Commissions and Collections

Naomi’s original artworks and custom pet portraits are held in private and commercial collections across Australia and internationally. Her work is defined by a commitment to archival quality, using only premium materials to ensure each painting remains a legacy piece for generations to come.

Whether she is capturing the "spark" in a pet’s eye or the rhythmic movement of the Pacific Ocean, Naomi’s goal remains the same: to create art that invites the viewer to pause, breathe, and reconnect with the natural world.

Artist Statement

"My work is an exploration of the delicate balance between technical discipline and expressive freedom. Coming from a background in traditional signwriting, I have a deep-seated respect for the structural integrity of paint and the precision of form. However, my true fascination lies in 'painterly realism'—the ability to capture a subject so that it feels vibrantly alive, rather than merely replicated.

Whether I am painting the rugged textures of the Central Coast coastline or the soulful gaze of a companion animal, I am searching for the 'spark' within the subject. I work primarily in oils on archival cradled board, using layers of rich colour and deliberate brushwork to translate light and character into a lasting legacy. For me, a painting is successful when it invites the viewer to look past the surface and connect with the spirit of the moment."
