Hand-Painted Pet Memorial Portraits
A Lasting Tribute to a Faithful Companion
There is a profound beauty in a life shared with a pet, and saying goodbye is one of our hardest journeys. I specialize in creating soulful, hand-painted oil memorials that go beyond a simple photograph. By capturing the spark of life in their eyes and the softness of their character, I help you create a permanent "place" for their memory to live in your home. Each archival-quality tribute is a celebration of the bond you shared—a legacy piece designed to offer comfort for a lifetime.
Working With Your Cherished Photos
I understand that when a pet has passed, you may have limited photographs. Please don't worry if your photos aren't "professional" quality.
-
Photo Reconstruction: I am experienced in working with older, candid, or slightly blurry photos.
-
A New Light: I can combine details from several images, adjust the lighting, or remove distracting backgrounds to ensure your pet is the soul focus of the piece.
-
Collaboration: We will work together to choose the pose and expression that best captures their true personality.
The Memorial Process
I handle every memorial commission with the utmost care and sensitivity.
-
The Conversation: We start with a chat about your pet and the photos you have available.
-
The Mockup: I create a digital layout so you can see the composition before I begin.
-
The Creation: I use professional-grade, archival materials to ensure the portrait remains as vivid as your memories.
-
A Shared Legacy: Once complete, your portrait is shipped with tracking and insurance, arriving ready to be displayed in your home.
"Naomi didn't just paint a picture of our Max; she captured the exact look he used to give us. Having this on our wall has brought so much comfort to our family." — Sarah, G
Memorial Portrait FAQs
What if I only have one or two old photos? This is very common. Please send me whatever you have—even if it’s a physical photo you need to scan or a screenshot from social media. While higher quality is always better, I am skilled at "reading" the character of a pet and can often reconstruct details like eye colour or fur texture by using my knowledge of the breed and your descriptions.
Can you remove collars, leashes, or messy backgrounds? Yes. In fact, most of my memorial portraits involve "cleaning up" the scene. I can remove distracting backgrounds, harnesses, or tear-staining to ensure the focus is entirely on your pet's beautiful face and expression.
Can you paint two pets together even if they weren't in the same photo? Definitely. I can take individual photos of different pets and compose them into one cohesive painting. This is a lovely way to "reunite" companions who may have passed at different times.
Is it possible to include a favorite toy or a specific local beach? I would love to. Whether it’s a well-loved tennis ball or the specific spot at Avoca Beach where they loved to run, including these personal touches makes the portrait a much more meaningful narrative of their life.
How long does the process take? I know that a memorial is often a time-sensitive way to help with the grieving process. A sketch or pen drawing can usually be completed within 1-2 weeks, while an oil painting requires 4-6 weeks due to the layering and drying time needed for archival quality.
Can I include a name or a special date on the artwork? Yes. For my Pen & Wash or Graphite works, I can incorporate hand-lettered names or dates. For oil paintings, I usually recommend keeping the front "fine art" focused, but I am happy to add a personalized memorial inscription on the back of the cradled board.
"She captured not only his personality but his eyes were so life like! Thank you for bringing our boy back through your beautiful artwork. He now is hanging on our wall and will always be part of our family. Thank you so much!!!! " ...Bronwyn
